Former Green Bay Packers star Ahman Green has revealed that he has been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, sharing the personal health battle publicly for the first time.
Green, 49, disclosed that he received the diagnosis last year during an appearance on the Go Long podcast hosted by sports journalist Tyler Dunne. According to the former NFL running back, he waited to make the news public until after his family had been informed. He also revealed that he has not yet shared the diagnosis with former teammate Brett Favre.
The announcement comes less than two years after Favre revealed that he, too, had been diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease, bringing renewed attention to the neurological disorder and its impact on former professional athletes.
Green remains one of the most accomplished players in Green Bay Packers history. During his career, he became the franchise’s all-time leading rusher, finishing with 8,322 rushing yards, 54 rushing touchdowns, and 350 receptions. His record-setting performances and explosive running style made him one of the NFL’s premier running backs during the early 2000s.
Parkinson’s disease is a progressive neurological disorder that affects movement and can cause symptoms such as tremors, muscle stiffness, slowed movement, and balance problems. While there is currently no cure, treatments and therapies can help manage symptoms and improve quality of life.
