Domestic violence has been on the rise….especially in the year of 2018. This story happens to be out of Russia. An Olympian swimming hopeful named Safia Askarova has lost her life at the hands of her own boyfriend, Nikita Malygin. Malygin, who’s also a swimmer, had apparently lost it after Askarova told him that she no longer wanted to be in the relationship. Nikita didn’t take it too well about being dumped. So instead of talking it out or accepting his girlfriend’s wishes, he retaliated with a knife.

“A top young Russian swimmer has been brutally stabbed to death by her boyfriend moments after dumping him.

Safia Askarova, 16, paid with her life after telling Nikita Malygin she wanted to concentrate on her high-flying sporting career in a quest for Olympic glory.

Jilted boyfriend Malygin – also an elite swimmer but not so successful – brutally stabbed her at least 30 times to the neck, chest and abdomen in her home city of Tolyatti, say detectives.

A friend of the couple claimed that he was ‘jealous’, suspecting she had got close to a love rival.

In a chilling video of a snowy crime scene reconstruction, Malygin confessed to murdering her, claiming she told him to ‘Go to hell’ when he pleaded to continue their relationship.

Demonstrating his frenzied knife attack on a manikin, he admitted to detectives: ‘I lost control.

‘I took out my knife. I can hardly remember where exactly I stabbed her. I remember the stab after which she fell down…’

He said: ‘She tried to run away, but I kept stabbing her. I dropped the knife somewhere near. At first I didn’t realise what I had done. I realised only on the way home.’

Butterfly swimmer Safia was a runner-up in the 2017 all-Russian youth championships, and recently took part in the Reserves of Russia swimming tournament.

She told her parents she was going to the shop but instead met Malygin, like Safia an Olympic sports school student.

A source said: ‘Later her relatives got worried she didn’t return and her mobile but it was blocked.’

At 10pm on 23 December her dead body was found. A knife was found at the scene, an abandoned building site.

Malygin was detained ‘soon’ after her death, according to sources.

A law enforcement source said at least 30 stab wounds to the neck and body were found on the corpse.

‘The suspect confessed during the preliminary interrogation,’ said official Elena Shkayeva.

A friend of both swimmers said: ‘He was jealous about some other guy.

‘They had a row. It led to such tragic consequences. It is hard to believe he could go that far.’

Another source said she wanted to concentrate on her swimming career and ended the relationship for this reason.

Her jewellery and mobile were missing, say detectives.

Malygin confessed: ‘We were standing there and talking. I wanted us to stay together. She was saying that we had to part. I was trying to persuade her.’

Malygin has been detained as detectives continue to investigate the killing.”

Domestic violence is real. And the one thing that happens over and over in these cases are the break ups. Usually one of the parties doesn’t want to be in the relationship anymore.
