North Carolina Mom Saves Her Daughter’s Life After She Suffered A Cardiac Arrest At Her Cheerleading Competition

A North Carolina mom saved the life of her 17-year-old daughter after she went into cardiac arrest.

Keeiana Joe was warming up at her cheerleading competition in Raleigh, North Carolina earlier this month. Suddenly she collapsed and became unresponsive.

“I saw her coach come running out of the back door of the other building screaming just frantically, ‘Get an ambulance. Get an ambulance. We need the ambulance here now,’” Andrea Joe told TODAY.

Andrea Joe, Keeiana’s mother, is a Certified Medical Assistant and she immediately jumped to action, according to TODAY.

Andrea said she found her daughter unresponsive on the ground and could not find a pulse. She immediately began giving CPR to save her daughter’s life.

“I just took over. I know CPR, I know how to do this. This is my baby and I have to save her,” she said.

I was like, ‘Come on, Keianna Come on. We’re not doing this. We’re not doing this today,’” she said.

Andrea reportedly worked on her daughter for 10 minutes.

“The vision of her laying there, not moving, not breathing, not responding, was the scariest moment of my life”.

Dr. Zeb Spector, who treated Keianna at Duke Children’s Hospital in Durham, North Carolina, said her mother played a vital role in saving her.

Keianna spent 10 days recovering in the hospital, according to TODAY. Unfortunately, the doctors were unable to figure out what caused her cardiac arrest. A small defibrillator was implanted in her chest before going home.

The teen said she’s “blessed” and grateful for her mother’s life-saving efforts.

“It was very hard for me to be in the hospital and away from my family,” Keianna said. “But the one person that was always by my side and then I knew that was always there was my mom.”

We are so happy that Keianna is doing well! Her mom is truly her HERO.
