New Orleans Saints Linebacker, Demario Davis, Fined $7,000 By The NFL For Wearing A ‘Man Of God’ Headband
A New Orleans Saints linebacker was recently fined $7,000 by the NFL for wearing a ‘Man Of God’ headband.
The football player posted the situation to his Instagram, asking people if he should continue to wear it or not?
The minimum fine for a first offense is $7,017, while the minimum fine for a second offense is $14,037.
USA Today Reported:
New Orleans Saints linebacker Demario Davis spoke about the NFL fine he received for wearing a black headband with “Man of God” written across it in gold letters in Week 3.
“I don’t think a lot of people were aware of the policy that was in place — I wasn’t even fully aware of it,” Davis told the Times-Picayune. “I just wanted to put it out and just kind of help fans who care about the game understand a more intricate part of the game.”
Davis posted a photo of the headband to his Instagram account explaining that the NFL fined him $7,000 for wearing it and asked his followers, “Should I continue to wear it?”
The headwear violates the league’s “personal message” policy under its uniform restrictions. Had Davis worn the headband a second time after the first fine, he would’ve have been hit with a $14,000 fine. That kept him away from wearing the headband in Sunday’s 12-10 win over the Dallas Cowboys.

“Of course you don’t want to be fined,” Davis told the newspaper of the fine that came after the game against the Seattle Seahawks. “Nobody wants to lose money but I think any time that the conversation about God is brought up, especially in these times, I think it’s always a positive or silver lining. If he can get glory from it, I think he can get glory from it whether I personally wear the headband or don’t wear the headband. He’s always gonna be in control of the whole situation. We’re still all good.”
Now Davis is hoping to sell the headbands and donate the proceeds to a Christian charity. He added: “I’m hoping to put it out where fans can wear it, and I can wear it through them.”
Davis has recorded 28 total tackles, two tackles for loss and a quarterback hit in four starts this season.
How do y’all feel about this situation? Do y’all think the NFL rules for uniforms are too harsh and and they should be allowed to wear religious material or do you think this punishment is fair? Also, if y’all were in this situation, would you continue to wear the headband and face the fines or would you just abide by the rules and stop wearing it? Y’all let me know your thoughts on this situation in the comments!
