‘NCIS: New York’ Starring LL Cool J and Scott Caan Greenlit at CBS

The NCIS franchise continues to expand, and CBS has officially ordered a new spinoff titled “NCIS: New York,” set to premiere in the 2026–2027 season.

The series brings back LL Cool J, who will reprise his fan-favorite role as Special Agent Sam Hanna from NCIS: Los Angeles. Hanna previously appeared across multiple entries in the franchise, including the flagship NCIS series, making him one of the most recognizable characters in the universe.

A Return for Sam Hanna

According to CBS’s newly announced schedule, NCIS: New York will follow Sam Hanna as he returns to New York City and joins a new NCIS field office. There, he partners with a new agent played by Scott Caan. Together, they lead a team handling high-stakes cases tied to one of the world’s most important cities and busiest ports.

Sam Hanna, a former Navy SEAL turned NCIS agent, was a central figure in NCIS: Los Angeles, which ran for 14 seasons from 2009 to 2023.

Creative Team and Production

The pilot is written by R. Scott Gemmill, who previously worked on all 14 seasons of NCIS: Los Angeles and served as showrunner for seven of them. He is also the creator of HBO Max’s The Pitt.

Byron Balasco will serve as showrunner. His previous credits include Without a Trace and the series Kingdom.

LL Cool J will also serve as an executive producer, alongside Gemmill, Jason Barrett, and Balasco.

Scott Caan’s Role

Scott Caan, known for playing Danny “Danno” Williams on Hawaii Five-0 for all 10 seasons, joins the franchise in a new role. He previously appeared in the NCIS: Los Angeles universe during a crossover, but will portray a brand-new character in this series.

Expanding the NCIS Universe

The NCIS franchise, which premiered in 2003, continues to be one of television’s most successful procedural universes. Alongside the flagship series—set to begin its 24th season—CBS also has multiple spinoffs including NCIS: Origins and NCIS: Sydney.

With NCIS: New York, CBS is combining familiar franchise legacy characters with a new setting and fresh team dynamics, aiming to attract both longtime viewers and new audiences.
