NCCU Football Player Trevor VanDyke Found Fatally Shot In Wrecked Car

A college football player was found fatally shot inside a car that appeared to have crashed on a Durham, NC road Tuesday morning.

The victim has been identified as North Carolina Central University freshman, Trevor VanDyke

DURHAM, N.C. (WNCN) — A shooting Monday night in Durham left a North Carolina Central University student dead, according to school officials.

The shooting was reported just after 9:30 p.m. in the 4600-block of Industry Lane, according to a news release from Durham police.

Police arrived at the scene and found that a man had been shot and killed.

According to a statement from the university to its students, the man has been identified as Trevor VanDyke, 20, a first-year student at the school.

Clayton High School tweeted that VanDyke played both football and basketball at the school.

Police at the scene Tuesday morning were investigating near a car that appeared to have crashed off the road near a line of trees on the street.

Durham police said in a release that investigators believe VanDyke was shot in the 1400-block of E. Cornwallis Road and ended up on Industry Lane where he was found dead inside a car.

No information about a suspect was released by police, who added the shooting was still under investigation. Police said it does not appear that the shooting was random.

This is such a tragedy for the family and so heartbreaking. Not only is it horrible to face the fact that someone killed your love one, but it’s even worst that no one is held accountable for it.
