Mo’Nique Stars In New Horror Film, ‘The Reading’; Produced By Lee Daniels
Mo’Nique and Lee Daniels are teaming up in another film, ‘The Reading’, a horror film set for BET+. Their last collab was with the film, ‘Precious’ (2009). This was the film that led Mo’Nique to receive her first Academy Award. Mo’Nique is set to star in ‘The Reading’, with Daniels as the executive producer and Courtney Glaude as the writer and director. Mo’Nique and her husband, Sidney Hicks, will also serve as producers for the film.
As previously reported, Mo’Nique and Daniels are also teaming up in a separate collaboration, ‘Demon House’. She will be the star in the film, replacing Octavia Spencer. Additionally, this will be the first production Mo’Nique has done since she filed a lawsuit against Netflix in 2019. The comedian claimed racial and gender discrimination for trying to drastically underpay her for a stand-up special after offering other stars tens of millions of dollars.
The Reading‘s official trailer shows Sky (Chastity Sereal) as she embarks on a staged reading at author Emma Leeden’s home (Mo’Nique), years after Emma’s family was killed in a home invasion. Sky, who worries about past experiences with spirits, unwittingly summons evil forces into the home that threaten her, Emma, and the rest of the group there.

“I LOVE US 4 REAL!,” Mo’Nique said in her Instagram post announcing the film.
Go Mo’Nique!!! The Reading is available to stream starting Thursday, Feb. 2, on BET+.
