A missing pregnant woman whose disappearance sparked urgent searches across southwest Houston has been found dead, and authorities are now searching for a suspect charged in her killing.
Ashanti Allen, 23, was discovered deceased on April 16 near Chimney Rock Park after being reported missing for nearly a week. Investigators say she was eight months pregnant at the time of her disappearance.
Houston police confirmed that Allen was last seen around April 8 near her home in the area of Main Street and McNee Road. Her sudden disappearance raised alarm among family members, especially given her high-risk pregnancy.
Authorities and volunteers with Texas EquuSearch located her body Thursday morning near Chimney Rock Road during an organized search effort. Her cause of death has not yet been released.
The case took a dramatic turn when police identified Kevin Faux, 24, as a suspect. Investigators say Faux — believed to be the father of Allen’s unborn child — has been charged with capital murder. He remains at large as of the latest updates.
Family members say Allen had been preparing for the birth of her child and left behind all of her belongings, including baby items and a hospital bag, when she vanished. Days before she was reported missing, she sent a troubling message to her mother that raised concern.
Loved ones have described Allen as kind and reserved, mourning both her and her unborn son, who was expected in the coming weeks.
Police are urging anyone with information about Faux’s whereabouts or details related to the case to contact the Houston Police Department or Crime Stoppers as the investigation continues.
