Mekhi Phifer is heading to outer space in the upcoming independent sci-fi film Moon People, which brings together an ensemble cast for a dangerous mission to the Moon.
Directed by Stanley Yung and written by Niko Foster, Moon People follows a team of astronauts who travel to the Moon to confirm the discovery of water. What begins as a scientific mission soon turns into a fight for survival when the crew encounters unexpected danger.
Phifer stars as Cape Josh Briley, joining Jena Malone, who plays Dr. Jennifer Foster; Dermot Mulroney, who portrays Sam Foster; and Vannessa Vasquez, who plays Dr. Diana Alvarez.
The film was shot in Lexington, Kentucky, giving the independent production a terrestrial backdrop for its outer-space adventure. Moon People is being produced by Al Bravo Films, with Al Bravo, Michael Pizzimenti and Tim Sabo serving as producers. Renata Stiglich and Pejman Partiyeli are executive producers, while Hemdee Kiwanuka, Jacov Bresler and Michelle Wang are co-producers.
For Phifer, Moon People adds another project to an already busy period in his career. The actor recently appeared in Lifetime’s Mary J. Blige Presents: Be Happy and made a guest appearance as Lyman Ross on Law & Order. He also joined ABC’s High Potential in a recurring role as Arthur Ellis, an old friend of the series’ lead character with a mysterious past.
Phifer is also set to star in the upcoming action thriller Marx, where he will play Ian, a calculating brother navigating Las Vegas’ criminal underworld.
While additional details about Moon People, including its release date, remain under wraps, the film offers a fresh independent take on the science-fiction genre, combining a lunar mission with the tension of a survival story.
With Phifer leading a cast that includes Malone, Mulroney and Vasquez, Moon People is shaping up to be an intriguing addition to the growing slate of independent sci-fi films.
