Meet The New Bachelor: Matt James

The Bachelor is finally getting it right. The TV show revealed their next bachelor, 28-year old Matt James — who will be the first black leading man to ever be on the show.

Good Morning America shared the news Friday morning via a statement from ABC.

“We know we have a responsibility to make sure the love stories we’re seeing onscreen are representative of the world we live in, and we are proudly in service to our audience,” the statement read. “This is just the beginning, and we will continue to take action with regard to diversity issues on this franchise. We feel so privileged to have Matt as our first Black Bachelor and we cannot wait to embark on this journey with him.”

Matt’s new roles comes after a petition circulated calling for ABC to cast more people of color — pointing out the lack of diversity in the 40 seasons of the Bachelor and Bachelorette franchise.

Rachel Lindsay made history as the first black female lead in season 13 of The Bachelorette in 2017.

According to Matt’s Instagram he’s in real estate and played college football at Wake Forest University’s in Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

Matt seems to be a suitable, eligible bachelor with some nice looking friends.  Enjoy ladies!

Season 25 of The Bachelor is scheduled to premiere in 2021.
