Maury Launching At-Home Paternity Tests
Less than a year following the end of his 31-year run as host of his syndicated daytime talk show, Maury Povich is taking his niche to the next level.
According to TMZ, the 84-year-old is launching an at-home DNA paternity testing company, The Results Are In, appropriately named after the famous catchphrase Povich would use on Maury when announcing the results of paternity tests for the guests on his show.
The testing kits will include instructions on how to administer a DNA sample, which will then be sent straight to a lab at DNA Diagnostics Center.
Maury’s company promises results to become available in 2-3 business days, with a 99.99% accuracy rate … and they say it’s all confidential.
In a statement, Maury tells TMZ … “I’ve seen firsthand how DNA testing can change lives and bring families together. With ‘The Results Are In,’ we’re making it easier and more affordable than ever before for people to get the answers they need.”
On Instagram, Maury lists himself as the CEO of “You Are NOT the Father.” He has also been sharing clips of paternity-themed segments from his talk show.
In a postmortem with the Los Angeles Times, the host explained his goal with his many on-air paternity tests, rebuffing criticisms that he exploited the show’s guests.
“If I can prove someone is the father of this child, that child will have a better chance in life with two people, two parents,” he said. “I bring these guests back 15 years later and find out that the guy did get into the kid’s life, got together with the mother and they had more kids and the child ended up with a good job. There are a lot of good endings with these stories.”
Following retirement, Maury shared that he actually planned to retire several years earlier before he was convinced by NBCUniversal execs to stick around for a while longer. After signing one more deal, Povich stuck with walking away from the TV show, though as we know now, that didn’t mean he was going to stop working entirely.
“Six years ago when I was ready to retire, my the NBCUniversal family asked me to continue the show,” Maury explained in a statement at the time. “Even though I told them I was ready for assisted living, out of loyalty to NBCUniversal and my more than 100 staff and crew members, Tracie Wilson and I agreed to one more deal. I’m so proud of my relationship with NBCUniversal and all those who worked on the Maury show but as I occasionally tell my guests on Maury, ‘Enough, already!’”
Although Maury is retired from the show, we knew this wasn’t going to slow him down.
A launch date hasn’t been revealed yet but we’ll keep y’all updated.
