Man Charged With Murdering 3 Men, Injuring 1 In Hit-and-Run Outside Jeffery Pub

Chicago Police Department announced that a man has been arrested for the murder of three men who were hit by a car outside a popular South Side bar.

Tavis Dunbar, 34, turned himself in on Monday and was charged with three counts of first-degree murder and one count of attempted first-degree murder.

Police said the hit-and-run happened around 5 a.m. on Aug. 14 on the 7000 block of South Jeffery Boulevard.

Witnesses said there was a fight outside of the Jeffery Pub, a popular LGBTQ bar, and a sedan plowed through the group. Police do not believe Dunbar was involved in that fight.

According to court documents, a witness told police Dunbar told the four men outside the bar, “I got something for you, you mother*******.”

Video obtained by CWB Chicago shows a silver sedan traveling south on Jeffrey and not slowing down as it hit four men. Three of the men died as a result, and a fourth was injured.

Those who died were identified as Devonta Vivetter, 27, Donald Huey, 25, and Jaylen Ausley, 23.

The only survivor of the hit-and-run was Carlee J. McKinney, and he gave ABC Chicago more details of the moment leading up to the attack.

“All I remember is I was trying to get my close family friend, I call him my cousin, I was trying to get him from fighting another male,” McKinney said.

According to documents, a search warrant was executed on the black box of Dunbar’s vehicle that revealed the act was intentional. He accelerated and did not hit the brakes as he slammed into the victims.

Dunbar turned himself in to police on Monday and CPD said he “significantly” changed his appearance.
