A year after the heartbreaking death of beloved actor Malcolm-Jamal Warner, a legal battle has emerged between his widow and his mother over the late star’s estate.
According to court filings, Warner’s widow, Tenisha Warner, has filed lawsuits in California and Georgia seeking more than $1.2 million from the Warner Family Trust, alleging that financial obligations outlined in the couple’s 2022 premarital agreement were never fulfilled before the actor’s untimely death.
The lawsuits name Pamela Warner, Malcolm-Jamal Warner’s mother and trustee of the Warner Family Trust, as the defendant.
What Tenisha Warner Is Claiming
According to the filings, Tenisha alleges that Malcolm-Jamal Warner agreed to provide several financial protections during their marriage, including:
- A $1 million life insurance policy naming her as beneficiary.
- Annual Roth IRA contributions.
- Yearly tax-free anniversary payments.
- A monthly salary for serving as his assistant and chief of staff.
Tenisha claims those obligations were never completed before Warner’s tragic passing, leaving her and their young daughter without the financial security they expected under the prenuptial agreement.
Estate Plan Allegedly Never Updated
The lawsuits also contend that Warner’s existing family trust was created decades before he married and had a child. According to the filings, the actor intended to update his estate plan to reflect his wife and daughter but died before those changes were finalized.
Because the trust allegedly does not adequately provide for them, Tenisha is seeking payment through the Warner Family Trust.
“I Had No Choice”
In a public statement, Tenisha said filing the lawsuits was not something she wanted to do, but rather something she believed was necessary to protect her family’s future.
She explained that she is now raising their daughter as a single mother and felt compelled to act before the legal deadline to pursue the claims expired.
Pamela Warner Has Not Publicly Responded
As of now, Pamela Warner has not publicly addressed the lawsuit.

Throughout his career, Warner became one of television’s most respected actors, later starring in series including Malcolm & Eddie, The Resident, and Reed Between the Lines. His death prompted an outpouring of tributes from fans, friends, and fellow entertainers across the industry.
