Magic Johnson Joins List Of Celebrities Bidding On The Washington Commanders NFL Team

Earvin “Magic” Johnson has joined a group led by Josh Harris bidding to own the Washington Commanders NFL Team, according to ESPN.

Josh Harris currently owns the Philadelphia 76ers, and the New Jersey Devils and is a shareholder in Crystal Palace FC. Johnson, Harris and the investment group attempted to purchase the Broncos NFL team last summer. Unfortunately, those efforts were unsuccessful.

Harris has reportedly strengthed his group this time around after adding Mitchell Rales to the team. The billionaire who lives in Washington DC is reportedly worth $5.6 billion, according to Forbes.

Washington owners Dan and Tanya Snyder announced their intention to sell the NFL team in November. Forbes listed the value of the franchise at $5.6 billion.

Back in November, it was reported that Jeff Bezos, Jay Z, and Byron Allen also made a bid when news first broke that the NFL team was being sold. No updates have been made regarding if these billionaires are still in the race.

Johnson is not new to the team ownership process. Johnson has invested in other sports teams, including the WNBA’s Los Angeles Sparks, MLS’ Los Angeles FC, and the LA Dodgers. Additionally, he has investments in real estate, movie theaters, Starbucks stores, fast food, and gyms.

Sportico first reported Johnson’s involvement. It is uncertain how much Johnson would be investing.

Sources familiar with the matter allege that meetings to sell the team have begun in Phoenix but the deal will likely not be finalized until sometime in May.

We will keep you all updated as more information regarding this deal is released.

Best of Luck to Magic Johnson and his team!
