Louis Gossett, Jr., Tamela Mann, and Deon Cole Join “The Color Purple” Cast
More cast members of the upcoming Color Purple film are being revealed.
As previously reported, the remake will feature stars Fantasia, Taraji P. Henson, Danielle Brooks, Corey Hawkins, Halle Bailey, H.E.R., and Colman Domingo.
Now it’s been announced that veteran actor Louis Gossett, Jr., Tamela Mann, and Deon Cole are joining the cast.
David Alan Grier, Stephen Hill, and new actress Phylicia Mpasi will also be in the film.
The new Color Purple is a remake of the 1985 Steven Spielberg classic, which was based off of author Alice Walker‘s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel.
Leading stars in the original movie were Whoopi Goldberg, Danny Glover, and Opray Winfrey.
The movie told the story of a young Black girl named Celie and explored many of the problems African American women faced during the 20th century. Issues such as racism, poverty, sexism, and domestic violence were all covered in the film.
Warner Brothers Pictures will begin filming the remake in Georgia later this month. The Color Purple is set to be released December 2023.
