LeVar Burton Confirmed To Host The National Spelling Bee

There’s no better person than Reading Rainbow’s LeVar Burton to host the Scipps National Spelling Bee.

The 64-year old actor and television host has been confirmed to be leading the event in it’s 94th year.

According to a press release, Burton will be hosting on two days, June 1 and June 2. He shared his excited about the new gig.

“Hosting the Scripps National Spelling Bee will be an honor.” He added, “Like a lot of folks, I look forward to the competition every year and am excited to be a part of this wonderful tradition that celebrates excellence.”

Executive producer of the Scripps National Spelling Bee, Dr. J. Michael Durnil, said selecting Burton to host aligns with their mission.

To have such a prominent advocate for children’s literacy involved in this special and unique competition is a perfect match,” Durnil said.

The spelling bee will air live for the first time on ION and Bounce.

Things have really picked up for Burton since he guest host Jeopardy! over the summer. Since then, he has been offered a hosting gig for a new show based on the classic game Trivial Pursuit.

Back in October, he was named Grand Marshal for the 2022 Rose Parade in Pasadena, CA. He will lead the event New Years day, Jan. 1, 2022.

Congratulations, Mr. Burton! You deserve all of this and more.
