April Daniels, wife of the late Lashawn Daniels, announced on her Instagram page Friday that the memorial service for her husband will be private. It will be only the immediate family and close invited friends in attendance.

She also wanted to take the time to thank everyone for the love and support after losing her husband in a fatal car accident on Tuesday.

Friends close to LaShawn, who is also known as Big Shiz, express their sorrow and good memories of the Grammy-winning songwriter.

Pastor John Gray said there are few people he calls a friend, but LaShawn was definitely one of them. He shared a clip of LaShawn talking to an audience about their relationship.

Most people won’t read all of this or watch the whole thing. But my friend was worth more than a cheap attempt at gaining likes. It’s long for a reason. You can’t encapsulate 21 years into 59 seconds. This three plus minutes sums up my brotherhood with @bigshiz. Met him in 1998 during a studio session with @kirkfranklin. We’ve been brothers ever since. He ran towards me when many church folk ran from me. True brotherhood isn’t tested when all is well. At my lowest, he was right there. He said “God allowed the shake off to get the fake off”. Truer words had never been spoken. The reason his death hurts so bad is because I can count my true friends on one hand. Less than one hand now. When we talked, we talked UP-we talked about the things of God, how to be better men, husbands and fathers-how to serve God with our gifts. He made me feel like what I had to offer mattered. My brother celebrated me-because he KNEW where I came from. He KNEW it was only God that brought to where I am. He was HAPPY for me and @iamaventergray and what God had blessed us with, not publicly complimenting but secretly jealous….yeah. He was a real man. A man of principle. A man of faith. A man who ADORED HIS WIFE @iamaprildaniels. A man who loved his kids. A man who honored God. That’s why I don’t understand. I don’t have a theology for this. So I must trust that even this is a part of ALL THINGS WORKING….but it doesn’t change the pain. I don’t think I’ll be the same after this, and maybe that’s the point-at least for me. Live like you have one day left-because one day you’ll have one day left. I loved @bigshiz. He was always the first of his kind. A true pioneer. Now, He gets to see Jesus first.
