The video show 15-year old Lucca getting pepper-sprayed, thrown to the ground, head slammed on the concrete pavement, and beat in the head with a fist by officers Sgt. Greg LaCerra and Sheriff Christopher Krickovich.

Here’s the video of the horrible attack:

Thousands of people shared videos of the incident on Twitter and Facebook over the weekend, tagging them “#justiceforlucca,” and demanding that the officers be fired and prosecuted.

After the public’s outcry for justice, NBC News announces this:

Broward County Sheriff Gregory Tony said in a statement Friday that the department would conduct a “thorough investigation” into the incident and said that Deputy Christopher Krickovich, one of the officers pictured in the video, had been placed on restricted duty.

In a pre-planned meeting with black leaders Saturday, Broward County Sheriff Tony said that he was taking the investigation into the matter seriously but emphasized that the importance of following the appropriate procedures.

The two officers explained their version of the incident in an affidavit. BuzzFeed News reported:

In the affidavit, Krickovich said that he and his partner Sgt. Greg LaCerra responded to a call from a McDonald’s in Tamarac, Fl, at 3 p.m. on Thursday after employees reported a large group of teenagers gathering for a fight outside the restaurant. He wrote that the McDonald’s was a popular after-school gathering place for students from a nearby high school and the scene of frequent fights — including an incident the day before that had caused damage to a bystander’s car.

Krickovich and LaCerra arrived after the fight had ended, per the affidavit, but as they ordered the crowd of teens to disperse, they identified one of the perpetrators from Wednesday’s fight who had been warned not to trespass in the area again and took him into custody.

“While I was dealing with the male on the ground, I observed his phone slide to the right of me and then behind me. I observed a teen wearing a red tank top reach down and attempt to grab the male student’s phone,” Krickovich wrote.

When LaCerra ordered the other boy to stay back, he said, the teenager “took an aggressive stance” toward the officer and “bladed his body and began clenching his fists.”

LaCerra pepper-sprayed the teen in the face and forced him to the ground, Krickovich wrote. There were more than 200 students in the crowd, according to Krickovich, and this is when many of them started recording the incident on their phones.

Per the affidavit, the officers feared for their safety and worked to restrain the teenager on the ground in an attempt to de-escalate the situation. Krickovich said that he hit the 15 year-old with a closed fist on the right side of his head as “a distractionary technique” to get the teen to release his right hand from under his head. “This technique was successful and I was able to place him into handcuffs without further incident.”

Lucca appeared in court Friday morning, where he was formally charged with assault, resisting arrest, and trespassing.

Regardless of the charges, officers of the law should never use excessive force on an unarmed teenager. Shaun has a point, if a white mass shooter gets taken into custody without a scratch on him, then why are the black children being attacked and treated like trash during an arrest? 1. Looks to me like the kid in blue tried to do the same thing as the kid in red. The difference is the kid in blue stepped back after the officer pushed him back. The kid in red stepped forward which is an implied aggressive gesture. With a large group of people around the officer had no choice but to quell the commotion down and stop anything before it got out of hand. Kids have underdeveloped frontal lobes and this could have escalated very quickly. I think the officer should be commended for keeping a potential deadly situation and turning it into an incidental situation where a kid got a few bruises and nothing more. No shots had to be fired, police officers were not mobbed and no one ended up with any broken bones.

    1. Your an idiot Mr. TED JONES…you obviously must be white and if you are not then your an even bigger idiot!!! I have a young black son who rarely leaves his books, but when he does I shouldn’t have to worry about what some pissed off police officer may do to him if he makes a hand gesture that he just doesn’t like. Yes, they should be there to help make shoppers fell safe and protect hard working people’s property. But they should not be there with their God complex viciously beating up Young Black Men!!!!
Maybe if you experienced that type of abuse you wouldn’t speak such rubbish!

  2. I am appalled. The beatings and killings of our young black men has to stop. Being black, automatically puts you in tatget range of the police. As police claim they fear for their lives. This is not true for any other group. Remember law enforcement originated from the old slave patrols, which still exist today
