Jennifer Hudson Becomes EGOT Winner After Receiving Tony Award
Singer, actress, and producer Jennifer Hudson has officially joined the EGOT club! Hudson has won an Emmy, Grammys, an Oscar and now this year she has scored a Tony Award.
Hudson makes the 17th person and the 2nd Black Woman in history to have this honor. Actress Whoopi Goldberg was the first.
She accepted her Tony Award Sunday night after Strange Loop, a film she produced, won Best Musical.
Hudson won her first of the big four awards, an Oscar, for her role in 2007’s Dreamgirls. She won two Grammys, one from her 2009 self entitled album, and the other for Best Musical Theater album in 2017 for the Color Purple. She then landed a win at the Emmys for the animated short Baba Yaga, which she co-produced and lent her voice to. Now she has a Tony!
Hudson previously joked when asked by PEOPLE about her plans to achieve EGOT status, “I should get two more dogs.”
“I got a dog and named it Oscar, and then I won my Oscar. And then I got a dog and named it Grammy, and then I won my Grammy,” she said at the time. “So I think I should get some dogs and name them Emmy and Tony — and it’ll give me good luck, and I’ll win. [They’re] like my good luck charms.”
The 2022 Tony Awards aired live from Radio City Music Hall in New York City on CBS and Paramount+.
Congratulations, J Hud!!
