Grim Reaper Haunts Beaches To Protest Premature Reopening

Florida lawyer, Daniel Uhfelder, is not happy about Gov. Ron DeSantis’ decision to reopen state beaches on May 4 despite the Coronavirus pandemic.

Uhfelder filed a lawsuit against the Florida Gov. DeSantis, to close all beaches but it fell on death ears. In order to protest, he haunts the beaches, dressed in a raggedy black robe with his face concealed using a black cloth wielding a scythe, to look like the grim reaper. Now, Uhfelder faces a lawsuit against him.

Uhfelder haunts the reopened Florida beaches with a film crew to remind beachgoers what’s in store for them if they are gathering at the beach despite stay-at-home orders. “The grim reaper represents death. This is a deadly virus. It’s a global pandemic,” said Uhlfelder, a Walton County resident. “People are gonna’ get hurt. And that’s what I’m here for. I wish I didn’t have to do this, but nobody else is doing it,” Uhfelder told CNN.

This Florida lawyer filed a suit against Gov. DeSantis to close Florida public beaches in March. As a result of the lawsuit the governor limited beach gathering to 10 people or fewer though, those regulations are readily enforced. As of May 4 Florida beaches have reopened.

Mike Huckabee, the former Arkansas governor and presidential candidate, is filing a bar complaint against Uhfelder for his protest. Uhfelder is not bothered by the complaint against him. In response to the complaint, Uhlfelder launched a hybrid super PAC named Make My Day PAC, which he said is “dedicated to the Americans who refuse to be silenced by bad actors.”

“We aren’t at the point now where we have enough testing, enough data, enough preparation for what’s going to be coming to our state from all over the world from this pandemic,” the lawyer told CNN.
