Governor Andrew Cuomo Makes Juneteenth A Holiday In New York State

New York Governor Andrew Cuomo is really showing that he is not all talk, and that he truly wants to make changes for the black community.

Cuomo announced Wednesay that he is making Juneteenth (June 19) — the date in which slavery ended in the United States — a holiday in New York state. The governor said he will sign an executive order recognizing Juneteenth as a holiday for state employees and he will advise legislation to do the same.

“It is a day that we should all reflect upon,” Cuomo said.

The move comes after massive global protests against the May 25 Minneapolis police killing of George Floyd as well as police brutality and systemic racism.

Thank you, governor.
