Georgia Southern QB, Shai Werts, Arrest Video Shows Police Mistaken Bird Poop For Cocaine

Georgia Southern’s starting quarterback, Shai Werts, charges were dropped this week after cops arrested him for thinking the white bird poop found on his car was cocaine.

The 21 year old football player argued to police that it was not cocaine that they found on his 2016 Dodge Charger.

A video was released of the argument between Werts and the officers.

The college football player was eventually cleared of the cocaine charges after tests were made and it was confirmed that there were not any controlled substances detected.

USA Today Reports:

Georgia Southern starting quarterback Shai Werts had charges of misdemeanor cocaine possession dropped on Thursday, one week after the 21-year-old argued with police officers over a white substance on his vehicle they said tested positive as cocaine.

Werts contended it was “bird poop.”

Saluda County (S.C.) Deputy Solicitor Al Eargle told The Savannah Morning News that the substance confiscated could not be proven to be cocaine. South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED) tests revealed that no controlled substance was present on the samples taken from the hood of Werts’ vehicle that was pulled over for speeding on July 31.

In the initial Saluda County (S.C.) Sheriff’s Office report, a white powdery substance was collected from the hood of the car. Two separate field tests of the substance (cocaine kits) conducted by deputies returned positive for cocaine, according the police report.

According to the police report, Werts initially didn’t stop when officers put on their sirens and called 911 instead because he didn’t feel safe on a secluded road. “I’m not going to pull over in the dark where no one around can see,” he said to police on the dash-cam video. “You know what’s been going on in the world. No offense to you, but I just didn’t feel comfortable, officer.”

Werts will still receive a speeding ticket but is cleared of other wrongdoing. He was suspended from the Eagles in the interim a few days after his arrest. The redshirt junior returned to the team on Sunday.

Werts was an All-Sun Belt Conference second teamer in Georgia Southern’s breakthrough 10-3 campaign in 2018, throwing for 987 yards and running for 908 while combining for 25 touchdowns. He was expected to start against LSU on Aug. 31.

I understand the cops were just doing their job, but I am pretty sure there is a distinct difference between cocaine and bird poop. How would y’all feel if you were in this situation? I honestly think that Werts should also have his speeding ticket dropped. It is the least they can do for making him go through this stressful arrest.

And now you’re officially in the KNOW!
