‘General Hospital’ Actress Sonya Eddy Has Died At 55

General Hospital fan favorite Sonya Eddy has passed away at the age of 55. There’s no official cause of death at this time.

The soap opera star’s partner and close friend, Tyler Ford, told TMZ that the actress/singer was scheduled for non-emergency surgery on December 9.

TMZ reports:

“He says she was released from the hospital on the 11th, but started to feel ill again, and went back to the hospital on the 15th … when doctors discovered she’d developed a serious infection.

Tyler tells us the infection was uncontainable, and doctors told him Monday morning she’d been placed on life support … she died Monday night”

Sonya Eddy is best known as the tough but VERY compassionate head nurse on General Hosptial, Epiphany Johnson. She started this role in 2006 and remained there for 16 years. She became a regular cast member on the spin-off, General Hospital: Night Shift.

Actress Octavia Spencer paid a tribute to her close friend on social media.

General Hospital’s executive producer Frank Valentini also mourned the loss of the incredible actress and his friend.

Shortly after, General Hospital shared a video in honor of Eddy with the caption, “We’ll never forget you, Sonya. 💔”

Eddy’s television and film credits include Fresh Off the Boat, Seinfeld, Glee, Martin, Young Sheldon, Seinfeld, Malcolm In The Middle, A Black Lady Sketch Show, Pee-Wee’s Big Holiday, I Live Alone, High School High, Gridiron Gang, Nutty Professor 2, Barbershop, Daddy Day Care, and Patch Adams.
