Father of Atatiana Jefferson Dies, Weeks After His Daughter’s Murder

The father of Atatiana Jefferson — the 28-year-old woman who was shot and killed by a Fort Worth police officer in her own home last month — has died.

Marquis Jefferson, 58, — who was not ill –suffered a heart attack and died Saturday night at Methodist Charlton Medical Center, family spokesman Bruce Carter said.

“Less than a month ago, he was working at El Centro, mentoring kids twice a week,” Carter told KXAS-TV (Channel 5). “He just couldn’t get back from what happened with his daughter.”

According to Dallas News, after Atatiana’s death, Marquis Jefferson became involved with a dispute with other family members over her funeral details. Her service took place Oct. 24 after a judge issued a temporary restraining order in her father’s favor.

 CBS 11, Erin Jones sat down with Marquis Jefferson in October, where he shared the heartbreak of losing his only daughter.
