Families Mourn the Loss of 2 Girls Killed In Goldsboro Car Crash

Two families are mourning the loss of two girls who died in a car crash in Goldsboro due to underage driving.

According to reports, 14-year-old Asiajonah Hines was behind the wheel of the car. Her friends 12-year-old D’nya Johnson and 13-year-old Nidia Johnson, who are sisters, were her passengers.

Asiajonah and D’nya lost their lives but Nidia is still fighting for her life.

The sisters were in town from Fayetteville visiting their father and hung out with Hines, the 14-year-old behind the wheel.

“They were somewhere they weren’t supposed to be,” said Hines’ mother. “They were supposed to be in the bed.”

Goldsboro police said they noticed a car speeding around 2:30 a.m. As they tried to catch up to it, they lost sight of the car.

By the time police said they found it, the car had crashed and overturned at the railroad tracks. Asiajonah and D’nya were ejected from the car and died at the scene.

The mother of the teen driver told WRAL News the girls knew better, but sadly, these actions cost them their lives.

“All I want is my daughter back. I want her back, but the reality is I’m not going to get her back.”

The sister’s aunts, Debra Massenburg and Teresa Johnson told WRAL News they are struggling to make sense of what happened.

Massenburg said, “The day I heard that it happened the first thing I said is ’why were they in the car?”

Friday, both families shared their message with WRAL News in hopes of keeping other children from taking part in similar acts.

“I want this tragedy to turn into a triumph for someone,” said Hines’ mother. “If it can save at least one child.”

Nidia Johnson is currently in recovery at a hospital in Greenville.
