Ex-Officer Kim Potter Found Guilty In The Killing Of Daunte Wright

Former Minnesota police officer Kim Potter has been found guilty of first and second degree manslaughter in the fatal shooting of Duante Wright.
Wright was murdered during a traffic stop in the suburbanatra of Brooklyn Center in Minneapolis, where Potter claimed she confused her gun with the taser.

As the verdict was being read, the 49-year of former officer barely showed any emotions. The defense attorneys asked the judge if she could be released on bail until sentencing? The the judge denied the motion.
“I cannot treat this case any differently than any other case,” Hennepin County District Court Judge Regina Chu said in her ruling.

Attorneys for Wright’s family said the verdict “provided some measure of accountability for the senseless death of their son, brother, father and friend.”

Civil rights activist and attorney Ben Crump shared the moment on social media.

“The justice system has provided some measure of accountability for the senseless death of Daunte Wright, a son, brother, father and friend.✊🏾 #JusticeForDaunteWright

Attorneys for Wright’s family asked for the “strongest and most just sentence possible” for Potter and called on the Brooklyn Center Police Department to “pinpoint its systemic failures that contributed to Daunte’s unlawful death.” The Wright family will be allowed to make a victim impact statement during sentencing, Ellison said.

Potter is expected to return to court for sentencing Feb. 18, 2022.
She can spend 10-15 years in prison and be fined $20,000-$30,000; however, if she has no criminal record, she may only get 6-8 years in prison.
