We have some devastating news in the entertainment industry. Saxophonist Andrew Woolfolk from the legendary group Earth, Wind, And Fire has passed away. He was 71. The artist died after a six-year health battle. The band’s frontman Philip Bailey shared a post on his Instagram page about his friend.

“I met him in high school, and we quickly became friends and bandmates,” Bailey wrote, adding, “He has Transitioned on to the forever, from this Land of the dying to the Land of the Living. Great memories. Great talent. Funny. Competitive. Quick witted. And always styling. Booski… I’ll see you on the other side, my friend.”.

Woolfolk joined the band in 1973, according to the band’s official roster. The EW&F lineup changed often throughout the years, but Woolfolk officially played the sax (as well as flute and percussion) with the group on and off until 1993.

Earth Wind & Fire won six Grammys with Woolfolk.

His most classic performances with EW&F and the 4-piece horn section were “Shining Star,” “After The Love Has Gone,” “Let’s Groove,” “Sing A Love,” “Boogie Wonderland,” “September,” “Got To Get You Into My Life,” “Fantasy,” “Devotion,” “That’s The Way Of The World,” and “Reasons.” 

Woolfolk continued his career, playing with other artists such as Deniece Williams, Stanley Turrentine, Phil Collins, Twennynine, Philip Bailey and Level 42.

In 2000, Earth, Wind & Fire, along with Woolfolk, was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
