Doc Rivers Announces His Departure As L.A. Clippers Head Coach

Doc Rivers has stepped down as the Los Angeles Clippers head coach. Doc, real name Glenn Anton Rivers, made the announcement on Twitter.

According to chairman Steve Ballmer, he called it “mutual decision.”

The team fell well short of its championship expectations this season after acquiring All-Stars Kawhi Leonard and Paul George last summer but Baller said that doesn’t take away the fact Doc is a “terrific” coach.

“Doc has been a terrific coach for the Clippers, an incredible ambassador, and a pillar of strength during tumultuous times,” Ballmer said in a statement Monday. “He won a heck of a lot of games and laid a foundation for this franchise.”

Doc Rivers had two years left on his contract, sources told ESPN.
