DMX Has Passed Away At 50, Family Says

DMX, one of the most popular and iconic rappers to hit the hip-hop scene, has died. He was 50 years old.

X, real name Earl Simmons, was rushed to the hospital last week after suffering (what was reported) a drug overdose; however the family says it was a heart attack.

Another source said that it was an overdose that led to a heart attack.

DMX has passed away.

A rep for the family confirmed X’s death in a statement Friday morning.

“We are deeply saddened to announce today that our loved one, DMX, birth name of Earl Simmons, passed away at 50 years old at White Plains Hospital with his family by his side after being placed on life support for the past few days. Earl was a warrior who fought till the very end.”

The statement continues, “He loved his family with all of his heart and we cherish the times we spent with him. Earl’s music inspired countless fans across the world and his iconic legacy will live on forever. We appreciate all of the love and support during this incredibly difficult time. Please respect our privacy as we grieve the loss of our brother, father, uncle and the man the world knew as DMX. We will share information about his memorial service once details are finalized.”

DMX got his start in music back in the ’80s, performing with Ready Ron — while simultaneously serving time behind bars. He decided to fully commit himself to music in the 90s.

He signed to Columbia records and was featured on projects with other rappers like Jay Z, LL Cool J, and rock band Sum 41.

The Grammy nominated artist released his Ruff Ryders debut studio album “It’s Dark and Hell is Hot” back in ’98.

One of his most famous songs ‘Ruff Ryders’ Anthem” has gone down in history as one of the greatest hip-hop songs ever. The anthem was known to be the hype song of the century and it ended up making it on Billboard’s Hot 100 chart.

His other biggest hit was Party Up (Up in Here).

X also shared his acting chops in Hollywood with films such as Exit Wounds and Cradle 2 the Grave.

Over the years, X has gotten caught up with some charges but he mostly struggled with substance abuse.

The rapper has been open with his battle for years, and entered rehab several times to fight it.

Another thing X will be remembered for is his powerful prayers. In any situation, setting, or event, X would always pray for others.

He also carried Bible study online.

The hip-hop community was hit with a huge loss, but X and his music will live on forever.

X leaves behind a fiance’ and 15 children, his mother, and siblings. Sending condolences to his family.
