Director Ryan Coogler Wrongly Accused Of Attempting To Rob A Bank

Police bodycam footage of Black Panther director Ryan Coogler being wrongly accused of attempting to rob a bank and placed in handcuffs has been released.

According to reports and the Atlanta officer who was speaking to Ryan in the footage, a Bank of America employee mistakenly thought Ryan was staging a robbery.

Ryan walked into the bank wearing sunglasses and a COVID face mask, then handed a teller a withdrawal slip with a note on the back. TMZ was able to obtain the alleged note.

The message read, “I would like to withdraw $12,000 cash from my checking account. Please do the money count somewhere else. I’d like to be discreet.”

Ryan said he also entered his card information to complete the transaction.

Although the note clearly says that he wants to withdraw money from his account, this interaction still caused the bank teller to be suspicious.

When officers arrived, they detained 2 people waiting outside for Ryan in an SUV — and then went in and brought the director himself out in handcuffs.

After an investigation, the police say this was all just a huge mistake … and the fault lies with the BoA employee, who’s described in the report as a pregnant Black woman.

Although Bank of America marks this as a mixup, Ryan wasn’t too happy. The report revealed that he asked for all the responding officers badge numbers.

Ryan also tells TMZ … “This situation should never have happened. However, Bank of America worked with me and addressed it to my satisfaction and we have moved on.”
