“Def Poetry Jam” Featuring Jill Scott Will Benefit COVID-19 Frontline Workers
Are y’all ready for more Jill Scott?
The soulful Grammy award-winning queen will be headlining a “Def Poetry Jam” reunion this weekend that will raise money to benefit individuals affected by the COVID-19 crisis in Newark, including frontline workers.
Newark ‘s mayor Ras Baraka will also be making a special appearance with his spoken word.
For those who don’t know, “Def Poetry Jam,” was a Tony-award winning showcase for spoken word performances that premiered on HBO in 2002 and ran for 6 seasons.
The “Def Poetry” reunion, “An Evening of Healing, Power and Poetry,” will stream on Twitch and Facebook, Saturday May 23 and be broadcast simultaneously on Newark municipal access channel NWK 78.
