“Coming 2 America” Reportedly Sold To Amazon Studios For $125 Million

Eddie Murphy‘s sequel to the 1988 classic “Coming to America” has been sold to Amazon Studios to set up streaming during the coronavirus pandemic.

According to Variety, “Coming to America 2” was sold by its distributor Paramount Pictures to the streaming giant in a deal reportedly worth about $125 million.

The much-anticipated film is slated to premiere December 18.

Paramount originally had the movie set to release on Christmas Day but uncertainty as to when movie theaters will reopen made it difficult to make that a film date.

The classic John Landis-directed film, that also starred actors Arsenio Hall, James Earl Jones, Shari Headley and John Amos, grossed nearly $300 million in the worldwide box office. Hopefully the sequel will bring the same level of success.
