Ciara Joins the New ‘Color Purple’ Cast As Adult Nettie

Singer Ciara is the latest actress to join the cast of the upcoming Color Purple musical film.


According to Entertainment Weekly, the “Level Up” performer is set to play the role of adult Nettie. Singer and actress Hallie Bailey will be playing young Nettie.


Ciara is mostly known for her musical career, where she has released 7 albums but she also has experience in acting in movies. Some of her films include MTV’s All You’ve Got, the musical Mama, I Want to Sing!, and the 2012 Adam Sandler comedy That’s My Boy.


She also had a recurring role on season 6 of BET series, The Game.


The Color Purple is an adaption of author Alice Walker‘s Pulitzer Prize-winning novel that follows the life of a southern girl named Celie dealing with racism, sexism, and abuse.


Grammy award-winning artist Fantasia Barrino will be portraying the role of Celie. Other cast members are Danielle Brooke (Sofia), Taraji P. Henson (Shug Avery), Colman Domingo (Mister), Corey Hawkins (Harpo), H.E.R. (Squeak), Louis Gossett, Jr. (Ol’ Mister), and David Alan Grier (Reverend Avery).


Warner Brother Pictures are set to begin production in Georgia this month. The film is expected to be released in December 2023.
