“An attorney for the 16-year-old suspect in the on-campus shooting death of a fellow Butler High School student said Tuesday that Jatwan Cuffie had been the target of threats and bullying.

“It’s already out there that there were threats to him and that there was an issue of bullying,” Assistant Mecklenburg County Public Defender Joel Adelman said, minutes after Cuffie had made his initial appearance in court.

Cuffie, a Butler High freshman, is charged with first-degree murder in the Monday shooting death of Bobby McKeithen, which occurred in a crowded hallway at the 2,100-student school, shortly before classes began.”

Before we go on, let’s take a look at the actual altercation here.

Can y’all believe that one of these students actually filmed this murder on a phone? This should be a big help to the case.

Tuesday afternoon Jatwan Cuffie appeared in a Mecklenberg County courthouse with his family there to support him. All 5’8, 120 pounds of him was engulfed inside of a green inmate jumpsuit.

The boy’s attorney had asked for the judge to grant bail, but that was a no go. Instead Cuffie will remain in jail until November 7th, the day of the next hearing.

No one knows what escalated this fight. Maybe it was an off campus disagreement or a history of bullying. Either way, the clip shows that the victim hit the suspect first and seemed to be getting the best of the fistfight. Do you all think this could be justified as self defense?

Let us know what you think.
