Buffalo Gunman Indicted On Domestic Terrorism, Hate Crime, And Murder Charges
The man arrested for killing 10 Black people at Tops grocery store has been indicted by a grand jury.
The 18-year old received more than two dozen charges, including domestic terrorism and first-degree murder charges.
The indictment of Payton Gendron has been reported to the court, an official with the Erie County District Attorney’s office said. Prosecutors will not say what charges it includes. However, the indictment obtained by News 4 includes 25 charges.
- Domestic act of terrorism motivated by hate in the first degree
- Murder in the first degree (10 counts)
- Murder in the second degree, as a hate crime (10 counts)
- Attempted murder in the second degree, as a hate crime (3 counts)
- Criminal possession of a weapon in the second degree, an armed felony
The defendant is expected to be in court to be arraigned on the indictment Thursday afternoon.
The shooting on May 14th at the Jefferson Avenue grocery store killed 10 people.
Thirteen people, ages 20 to 86, were shot. Eleven were Black and two were White, Buffalo police said.

• Margus D. Morrison, 52, of Buffalo
• Andre Mackniel, 53, of Auburn, New York
• Aaron Salter, 55, of Lockport, New York
• Geraldine Talley, 62, of Buffalo
• Celestine Chaney, 65, of Buffalo
• Heyward Patterson, 67, of Buffalo
• Katherine Massey, 72, of Buffalo
• Pearl Young, 77, of Buffalo
• Ruth Whitfield, 86, of Buffalo
• Zaire Goodman, 20, of Buffalo, was treated and released from hospital
• Jennifer Warrington, 50, of Tonawanda, New York, was treated and released from hospital.
• Christopher Braden, 55, of Lackawanna, New York, had non-life-threatening injuries
Gov. Kathy Hochul has announced $2.8 million in funding for the victims and their families, according to a statement from her office. GoFundMe has also compiled a list of verified fundraisers dedicated to helping in the wake of the tragedy.
The investigation is still ongoing.
