Body of Missing 6-Year-Old Boy Found in Clayton County Pond After Extensive Search

A heartbreaking search for a missing 6-year-old Georgia boy has come to a tragic end.

Authorities confirmed Monday that the body of Ramon “RJ” Jett, a nonverbal 6-year-old who had been reported missing, was recovered from a pond near his last known location in Clayton County, Georgia.

RJ disappeared Sunday morning after he was last seen at an apartment complex on Webb Road in Riverdale. According to his mother, the family woke up from a nap around 1 p.m. and discovered the little boy was gone. They believe he wandered away from his sister’s apartment.

Law enforcement agencies quickly launched an extensive search involving Clayton County police, neighboring departments, the sheriff’s office, the Georgia Department of Natural Resources, dive teams, drones, volunteers, and members of RJ’s family. After hours of searching, authorities located his body in a nearby pond.

In a statement, the Clayton County Police Department said:

“Tragically, ‘RJ’ was found in a pond close to his last known location, deceased. His family has been notified, and our thoughts and deepest condolences are with them during this incredibly difficult time.”

Police also asked the public to keep RJ’s loved ones in their thoughts and prayers while respecting the family’s privacy as they mourn the devastating loss.

Authorities have not released additional details about the circumstances surrounding the child’s death. The investigation remains ongoing.
