Scott Bryce, the acclaimed actor best known for originating the role of Craig Montgomery on the long-running CBS daytime drama As the World Turns, has died at the age of 68 after a battle with cancer.
The news of Bryce’s passing was first shared by his longtime friend, actress Lucie Arnaz, daughter of television legends Lucille Ball and Desi Arnaz. In a heartfelt tribute, Arnaz remembered Bryce as “a wonderful actor, a beautiful man and a terrific husband and father.”
“I am going to miss his eyes, his smile, his wit, his brain, his intelligence, his talent, his bravery, his laugh and his hugs,” Arnaz wrote. “Rest in peace you marvelous, magnificent man.”
Bryce had revealed in 2025 that he had been diagnosed with stage 3 esophageal and stomach cancer. After undergoing treatment, he told fans he was recovering and “on the mend.” According to Arnaz, however, the cancer later returned.
Born on January 6, 1958, in New York City, Bryce came from a family deeply rooted in daytime television. One of Bryce’s most memorable storylines paired Craig with Betsy Stewart, played by future Hollywood star Meg Ryan, creating one of the show’s most talked-about love triangles alongside Steve Andropoulos, portrayed by Frank Runyeon.
During his time on the series, Bryce earned two Daytime Emmy Award nominations for Outstanding Lead Actor in a Drama Series in 1986 and 1987.
After his final departure from As the World Turns in 2008, the role of Craig Montgomery was later portrayed by Jon Lindstrom, Hunt Block, and Jeffrey Meek. Bryce also appeared as Ed Crosby on One Life to Live from 2006 to 2007 and made numerous television guest appearances throughout his career.
