Angela Bassett Set To Receive Honorary Oscar

Well, Angela Bassett may have gone home empty-handed following the Oscars in March, but the end result will be a little different for the veteran actress and tv director next time around. Bassett will finally receive an Oscar!

Bassett will be presented the Honorary Oscar at the Motion Picture Academy’s Annual Governors Awards in November. One of the standout moments from the evening was when Angela Bassett’s reaction to losing the award for Best Supporting Actress to Jamie Lee Curtis. Bassett and Curtis were up for Best Supporting actress for the roles of Queen Ramonda in ‘Black Panther: Wakanda Forever’(Bassett), and Deirdre Beaubeirdre (Curtis) in ‘Everything Everywhere All At Once’.

In a statement, Academy President Janet Yang said….

“The Academy’s Board of Governors is thrilled to honor four trailblazers who have transformed the film industry and inspired generations of filmmakers and movie fans. Across her decades-long career, Angela Bassett has continued to deliver transcendent performances that set new standards in acting.”

The award will be a milestone in Bassett’s career, and other recipients who will receive the same honor at the Academy’s 14th Governors Awards. EGOT funnyman Mel Brooks and film editor Carol Littleton will also be presented awards. In addition, the Sundance Institute’s Michelle Satter will receive the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award. 

After a three-decade-long career, Angela Bassett remains a top leading contender in the world in television and movies. Many of her popular works include the biopic breakthrough classic, ‘What’s Love Got To Do With It,’ ‘Boyz N The Hood,’ ‘Malcolm X,’ ‘How Stella Got Her Groove Back,’ “The Rose Parks Story,” “The Jackson: An American Dream,” and the series drama “911.”

We are just so ecstatic and proud of all of these amazing artists. All three honorees will be given their Oscar statues at a special ceremony scheduled for Nov. 18, 2023.
