Alec Baldwin To Be Charged With Involuntary Manslaughter For The Fatal ‘Rust’ Shooting

Alec Baldwin will be criminally charged for the fatal shooting of cinematographer, Halyna Hutchins, 42, on the movie set of ‘Rust’. He, as well as armorer, Hannah Guiterrez-Reid, will each be charged with two counts of involuntary manslaughter.

The assistant director of ‘Rust’, David Halls, signed a plea deal for the charge of the negligent use of a weapon and will receive six months of probation. He admitted to not checking the gun for safety before handing it to Hannah, who then handed it to Alec.

As YKW previously reported:

Baldwin, 64, shot the bullet that killed Hutchins in October 2021 while they were filming in New Mexico. She was shot after a prop gun that Baldwin was holding, which turned out to have live rounds in it, discharged and hit Hutchins. Director, Joel Souza, 48, was also injured but survived. Having guns on set with live bullets instead of dummies is against Hollywood Film standards.

New Mexico’s Judicial DA, Mary Carmack-Altwies will file charges before the end of the month. She states, [she will] “be keeping with her commitment to pursue justice for all victims and to hold everyone accountable under the law.”

In a statement obtained by PEOPLE, the Hutchins family supports the charges against Baldwin. “It is a comfort to the family that, in New Mexico, no one is above the law,” attorney Brian J. Panish said on behalf of the family.

Baldwin’s attorneys released a statement saying, “This decision distorts Halyna Hutchins’ tragic death and represents a terrible miscarriage of justice. Mr. Baldwin had no reason to believe there was a live bullet in the gun — or anywhere on the movie set. He relied on the professionals with whom he worked, who assured him the gun did not have live rounds.”

We will fight these charges, and we will win,” they added.
