LOS ANGELES, CA — Starz has officially greenlit Power: Origins, an 18-episode prequel series chronicling the early lives of James “Ghost” St. Patrick and Tommy Egan—two of the most iconic characters in the hit Power universe. The announcement marks a bold expansion of the wildly popular crime drama franchise, which has captivated audiences since its debut in 2014.
Described as a high-energy, gritty coming-of-age tale, Power: Origins will explore the bond, betrayal, and ambition that shaped Ghost and Tommy into the formidable duo that ruled New York’s criminal underworld in the original series.
A Franchise Milestone
“Our fans have been asking for Ghost and Tommy’s origin story since we first met them in Power—and with this series, we’re delivering in a big way,” said Kathryn Busby, President of Original Programming at Starz. “Power: Origins will give viewers a thrilling look at the world before Ghost became the kingpin and Tommy became his fiercely loyal—and volatile—partner.”
The prequel is being developed by Lionsgate Television, with franchise veterans Courtney A. Kemp, Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson, and Mark Canton returning as executive producers. Sascha Penn, who successfully steered Power Book III: Raising Kanan, will serve as showrunner and writer.
Familiar Faces & Tightly Woven Timelines
Mekai Curtis, who portrays a young Kanan Stark in Raising Kanan, is confirmed to reprise his role, offering narrative continuity as the series moves deeper into the characters’ interconnected pasts. Casting for the young versions of Ghost and Tommy—originally played by Omari Hardwick and Joseph Sikora—has yet to be announced.
“With Origins, we’re not just revisiting history—we’re rewriting the rules,” Penn said in a statement. “This series gives us a chance to explore how power is born, the cost of loyalty, and the choices that define everything that follows.”
