A posthumous D’Angelo album is in the works, with six tracks already selected from the late R&B icon’s unreleased recordings. His older brother, Luther Archer, also teased a previously unheard collaboration involving D’Angelo, Michael Jackson and Mary J. Blige.
Archer confirmed the project during an interview with Kiss Richmond, saying the family is reviewing D’Angelo’s vault while deciding which songs will make the final album. The singer, songwriter and producer died in October 2025 at 51, leaving behind a catalog of unreleased music that could fuel multiple future projects.
During an interview with Kiss Richmond, Archer said the family is still deciding which tracks will make the final album.
“We’ve got an album coming out. Just him. So no collaborations. There are six tracks [so far]. But then we have a whole vault of music that’s never been released,” Archer explained, according to That Grape Juice.
Unreleased Music Could Lead to More Projects
The album may be only the first release drawn from D’Angelo’s archives. Archer said the family is also considering a B-sides collection and a separate project featuring the singer’s cover songs.
He also teased unreleased music involving Mary J. Blige and Michael Jackson, saying, “There’s one with Mary J. Blige and Michael Jackson.”
Details about the recording remain unclear, including whether it will appear on the forthcoming album or a separate project. Still, the possibility has generated excitement among R&B and pop fans.
D’Angelo’s Musical Legacy
Born Michael Eugene Archer, D’Angelo became a defining figure in neo-soul by blending classic soul, funk, gospel and contemporary R&B.
His debut album, Brown Sugar, arrived in 1995, followed by the acclaimed Voodoo in 2000 and Black Messiah in 2014. Across his career, his artistic independence, innovative production and genre-defying sound influenced generations of singers, songwriters and producers.
His death in October 2025 marked the loss of an artist whose relatively small catalog had an enormous impact on music.
Fans Await the Next Chapter
With six tracks selected and more recordings under review, the forthcoming album could open a new chapter in D’Angelo’s musical legacy. No release date or finalized tracklist has been announced, and additional projects may follow.
As his family preserves his work, fans await the chance to hear music that has remained unreleased while honoring the creative vision that made D’Angelo one of R&B’s most respected voices.
D’Angelo’s music continues to live on, and fans may soon have more reasons to celebrate the legacy he left behind.
