Nia Long Joins Cast of Teyana Taylor’s Directorial Debut Get Lite for Paramount

Actress Nia Long is adding another major film project to her growing list of credits. The veteran star has joined the cast of Get Lite, the upcoming Paramount feature marking singer, actress and filmmaker Teyana Taylor’s feature directorial debut.

The casting reunites Long with actress Storm Reid, who previously starred alongside her in the 2023 mystery thriller Missing. The new project brings together an ensemble of established Hollywood talent and rising stars for a coming-of-age story centered on dance, love and finding a sense of belonging in New York City.

Production is underway in New York, and Paramount has scheduled Get Lite for a wide theatrical release on August 20, 2027.

A Story Rooted in New York City’s Dance Culture

Get Lite follows a talented but sheltered dance student, played by NFL rookie-turned-actor Ceyair Wright, who discovers inspiration, love and family in the subway system of New York City.

Storm Reid plays a young woman who helps open his world to new possibilities as he navigates life, relationships and self-discovery.

The film draws inspiration from Litefeet, a high-energy street-dance style that originated in Harlem and became a recognizable part of New York City’s dance culture.

Taylor is directing from a screenplay by Maurice Williams, based on a spec script by Eric Gross that appeared on the Black List in 2020.

An All-Star Cast

Long joins a cast that includes Tony Award winner Leslie Odom Jr., acclaimed actress Aunjanue Ellis-Taylor, Jodie Turner-Smith, Asante Blackk, Woody McClain, Tylil James and Khayr Bullock.

Reid is also serving as a producer alongside Kenya Barris and Anni Weisband for Khalabo Ink Society, Robyn Simpson for A Seed & Wings Productions, and Bill Karesh for Offbrnd. Taylor is co-producing with Courtney “Coco” Gilbert under their production banner, The Aunties.

The film represents an important career milestone for Taylor as she steps behind the camera for her first feature as a director.

Nia Long Continues Her Hollywood Run

Long has remained a familiar face in film and television for decades, earning recognition for performances in Boyz n the Hood, Love Jones, Soul Food, The Best Man franchise and The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.

More recently, she portrayed Katherine Jackson in Michael, the biographical film about the life of Michael Jackson. She also recently received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Long has several other projects on the horizon, including Don’t Ever Wonder, which reunites her with longtime co-star Larenz Tate, as well as upcoming projects connected to the Are We There Yet? and Friday franchises.

With Taylor making her feature directorial debut and Long reuniting with Reid, Get Lite is shaping up to be an anticipated addition to Paramount’s 2027 theatrical lineup.
