Reality TV Star Mackayla “Kash” Paige Shot and Killed in Oakland; Richmond Woman Arrested

A heartbreaking tragedy has claimed the life of Mackayla Paige, known to fans as “Kash,” a 29-year-old reality television personality from Richmond, California, who was fatally shot in downtown Oakland early Sunday morning, October 11.

Paige, who appeared on reality series including Young & Reckless, Roommhates and Now That’s Riot, was found suffering from a gunshot wound after Oakland police responded to reports of a shooting shortly after 1:30 a.m. in the area of 14th and Harrison streets.

According to the Oakland Police Department, officers attempted lifesaving measures before Paige was transported to a local hospital, where she later died. Authorities have arrested another woman from Richmond in connection with the shooting, but investigators have not publicly identified the suspect or announced charges as of Monday, October 12. The circumstances surrounding the shooting and a possible motive remain under investigation.

Alleged Confrontation Before Fatal Shooting

Following Paige’s death, videos circulating on social media have reportedly shown an altercation involving her before the shooting. However, authorities have not confirmed the circumstances depicted in the footage, and ABC7 News reported that it had not independently verified whether the videos showed the fatal encounter.

Police have not disclosed what led to the shooting or whether Paige knew the woman arrested in connection with the case.

As investigators work to establish what happened, the lack of confirmed details has left family members, friends and fans searching for answers.

Family Remembers Kash as a Woman With Big Dreams

While many viewers knew Paige through her reality television appearances, her loved ones say there was much more to her than what audiences saw on screen.

Her cousin, Azima King, spoke with ABC7 News about the devastating loss and the difficulty of processing Paige’s death.

“Honestly I don’t know how I feel. I’m floating. Shaking. I’ve been shaking since yesterday,” King said.

King also emphasized that Paige wanted to grow as a person and build a better future for herself.

“She just wanted better for her life. And she wanted to be better. And she wanted to change,” King said.

Other relatives have described Paige as someone with aspirations beyond reality television, including ambitions in modeling, makeup and business. Her family wants people to remember her for her personality, goals and the life she hoped to build.

A growing memorial has formed near the location where she was shot as loved ones gather to mourn her loss.

Now That’s TV Pays Tribute

The streaming network Now That’s TV, where Paige appeared on several reality programs, also acknowledged her passing in a tribute shared on social media.

The network remembered her contributions to its programming, including appearances on Young & Reckless, Roommhates and Now That’s Riot.

“Though her time with us was far too short, her memory will live on,” the network wrote.

Paige’s death has prompted an outpouring of reactions from viewers and supporters who followed her appearances and social media presence.

Investigation Continues

Paige’s killing comes amid renewed attention to violence surrounding events connected to reality television personalities in the Bay Area. However, authorities have not established a connection between her death and a separate fatal shooting involving a security guard outside San Francisco’s Warfield Theatre earlier in October.

Investigators also have not established that reality television programming played any role in Paige’s death.

The Oakland Police Department’s Homicide Section is continuing to investigate the case. Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to contact the department’s Homicide Section at 510-238-3821.

As family and friends grieve, Paige’s loved ones are left remembering a young woman whose dreams extended far beyond the screen.

Y’all Know What sends heartfelt condolences to Mackayla “Kash” Paige’s family, friends and loved ones during this difficult time. May her memory live on.
