A disagreement over how chicken should be cooked allegedly escalated into a deadly stabbing in Hazel Park, Michigan, leaving one man dead and another facing a second-degree murder charge.
According to FOX 2 Detroit, the incident happened on September 7 during a barbecue hosted by 60-year-old Kenneth Erwin Thomas and his girlfriend. Thomas’ girlfriend’s brother, 62-year-old Cleo Lawson of Detroit, was reportedly at the gathering when an argument broke out over how the chicken should be prepared.
Investigators say the disagreement eventually became physical. Lawson allegedly stabbed Thomas during the confrontation, causing injuries that later proved fatal.
Lawson was subsequently arrested and charged with second-degree murder in connection with Thomas’ death.
Lawson was arraigned on September 10 and was denied bond. He remains in custody while awaiting his next court appearance.
The case remains under investigation, and the allegations against Lawson have not been proven in court. He is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
The incident serves as a tragic reminder of how quickly a disagreement can escalate, turning what was reportedly a casual family barbecue into a deadly confrontation.
