Coco Jones may be stepping out of the Banks mansion and into a new chapter as Hilary Banks.
Months after Bel-Air wrapped its four-season run, Peacock is developing Hilary, a potential spinoff centered on Jones’ fan-favorite character from the hit series.
According to Deadline, the project is still in development and has not yet received a series order.
In the proposed spinoff, Hilary impulsively relocates to New York after accepting an unexpected job offer from celebrity chef Yvonne Durand. Determined to establish herself beyond the privilege, fame and connections associated with the Banks name, Hilary discovers that building a career, finding genuine friendships and navigating romance in the Big Apple may be more complicated than she anticipated.
The premise would give Hilary a fresh start while taking the character in a different direction from the conclusion of Bel-Air. In the series finale, Hilary returned to Los Angeles from Costa Rica with plans to launch her own café.
The New York setting also creates an interesting connection to the original The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. In that sitcom’s series finale, the original version of Hilary Banks also moved to New York, giving the potential spinoff a full-circle connection to the franchise’s history.
Tracy Oliver Set to Write
Hilary is being written by Tracy Oliver, the acclaimed writer and producer behind Girls Trip and the television series Harlem. Oliver’s work has frequently centered ambitious, complicated Black women navigating careers, friendships, relationships and life in major cities, making her a natural fit for the project.
Jones is expected to reprise her role as Hilary and will also executive produce the potential series.
The executive producing team includes Jones, Oliver, Will Smith, Terence Carter, David Boorstein and Miguel Melendez of Westbrook Studios, Benny Medina, Andy Borowitz, Susan Borowitz, Morgan Cooper, the Jeff Pollack trust and the Quincy Jones estate.
If ordered to series, Hilary would mark another expansion of the Bel-Air universe and potentially become Peacock’s first scripted original series to receive a spinoff.
Coco Jones’ Next Chapter
Jones became one of the breakout stars of Bel-Air, bringing a modern depth and personality to Hilary Banks across all four seasons. Her portrayal received support from Karyn Parsons, who originated the role in the original Fresh Prince of Bel-Air.
Outside of Bel-Air, Jones has appeared in Netflix’s Vampires vs. the Bronx and recently starred in Malcolm D. Lee’s psychological thriller Strung. She also has the upcoming romantic comedy That’s Her in the pipeline.
As a recording artist, Jones released her debut album, Why Not More?, which earned a nomination for Best R&B Album at the 2026 Grammy Awards.
For Jones, Hilary could provide an opportunity to take the character beyond the Banks family and establish her own world, relationships and ambitions.
Still in Development
While the idea of Hilary Banks taking on New York is already generating excitement among Bel-Air fans, there is still a long way to go before the potential series reaches the screen.
As of August 25, 2026, Hilary remains in development at Peacock, and no official series order has been announced.
