Grammy-winning singer-songwriter SZA is opening up about a deeply personal milestone, revealing that she was formally diagnosed with autism at the age of 36.
The “Kill Bill” hitmaker shared the news on her private Instagram account, telling fans that she had “finally” taken the time to undergo an official evaluation after previously suspecting she might be on the autism spectrum.
In her candid post, SZA wrote that she had been diagnosed with what she described as “Asperger’s/high-functioning autism.” She also shared part of her evaluation paperwork, which reportedly stated that her behaviors, communication patterns, and social interactions were consistent with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD).

According to reports, SZA said the diagnosis has helped her better understand herself and explained many of the experiences she has had throughout her life. The singer has previously spoken about feeling different and navigating social situations in unique ways, making the diagnosis an important moment of self-discovery.
While SZA used the terms “Asperger’s” and “high-functioning autism” in her post, it’s worth noting that under current medical guidelines, Asperger’s syndrome is now classified as part of Autism Spectrum Disorder rather than as a separate diagnosis.
Fans quickly flooded social media with messages of love and support, praising the singer for being open about her diagnosis. Many also shared that her honesty could help reduce stigma and encourage others to seek answers about their own neurodivergence.
SZA’s revelation adds her to a growing list of public figures who have spoken openly about being autistic, helping bring greater awareness and understanding to autism, particularly among adults who receive diagnoses later in life.
