Salt-N-Pepa To Receive Star On Hollywood Walk Of Fame
Hip-Hop legend Salt-N-Pepa is up next to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
The Hollywood Chamber of Commerce announced the news on Tuesday (Oct. 25) that the popular MCs will receive recognition in the Recording category.
“This upcoming star ceremony honoring Hip-Hop pioneers Salt-N-Pepa will honor the amazing 80s music we all love and so many grew up with!” stated Walk of Fame Producer Ana Martinez. “We’re placing these ladies of Hip Hop royalty adjacent to Amoeba Music and right next to the Walk of Fame star of another Queen of Hip Hop, Missy Elliott!” she added.
Missy shared her admiration on Twitter.
The rap duo, whom consists of Cheryl James (Salt) and Sandra Denton (Pepa) has been entertaining us with hits since 1985. The group also featured Deidra Muriel Roper, also known as DJ Spinderella.
After more than 30 years of making music together, DJ Spinderella post a statement on social media saying that Salt-N-Pepa sent a termination email letting her know that her services were not needed for the New Kids on the Block Mixtape Tour.
Spin then filed a lawsuit against the group over alleged unpaid royalties but a judge rejected her requests for immediate relief against her former bandmates. The judge has instead ordered the case to mediation.
According to a recent post by Spin, the group seems to be in a good place.
They’re mostly recognized by their first single “Push It,” which became the first rap song by a female act to hit the top 40 of the Billboard Hot 100.
In 1995, the group won the Grammy for best rap performance by a duo or group in 1995 —- which made them the first women in the rap industry to win a Grammy Award.
Salt shared her excitement following the Walk of Fame announcement.
DJ Spinderella also shared her joy in an Instagram post.
MC Lyte and Roxanne Chante will appear as guest speakers and the event is scheduled for Friday, Nov. 4. The ceremony will be streamed live exclusively at walkoffame.com.
