Ice Cube and Nia Long Reunite for New Are We There Yet? Sequel, Are They Gone Yet?

Fans of the beloved Are We There Yet? franchise have a new reason to celebrate. Nearly two decades after last sharing the screen as Nick and Suzanne Persons, Ice Cube and Nia Long are officially reuniting for a third installment in the hit comedy series titled Are They Gone Yet?

The project is currently in early development after being acquired by Skydance Sports, with writers Chris Hazzard and Mike Fontana attached to pen the screenplay.

The original Are We There Yet? premiered in 2005 and became a box-office success, earning more than $97 million worldwide. The family comedy followed Nick Persons, played by Ice Cube, as he attempted to win over Suzanne Kingston, portrayed by Nia Long, by taking her two mischievous children on a cross-country road trip. What followed was a hilarious journey packed with mishaps, chaos, and unforgettable moments.

The franchise returned in 2007 with Are We Done Yet?, which found Nick and Suzanne newly married and navigating the challenges of blending their family while building their dream home. The sequel grossed nearly $58 million worldwide and further cemented the series as a fan favorite.

Now, Are They Gone Yet? will explore the next chapter in Nick’s life as he faces what may be his biggest challenge yet—becoming a grandfather. The new storyline promises to bring the same family-centered humor that made the first two films successful while introducing a fresh generation of comedic chaos.

Following the success of the films, the franchise was adapted into a television sitcom on TBS. The series starred Terry Crews and Essence Atkins in the lead roles and aired for three seasons from 2010 to 2013.

The announcement comes during a busy period for both stars. Ice Cube is currently touring on his “Truth to Power: 4 Decades of Attitude” tour while also developing the long-awaited fourth installment of the Friday franchise, which is targeting a 2027 release. Meanwhile, Nia Long is also appear in the highly anticipated Michael Jackson biopic, Michael.

For longtime fans of Nick and Suzanne, the reunion marks a nostalgic return to one of the most popular family comedy franchises of the 2000s. If the first two films are any indication, audiences can expect plenty of laughs, heartfelt moments, and a whole new set of family adventures when Are They Gone Yet? arrives in theaters.
