Loose Ends Singer Jane Eugene Released From ICE Custody, Returns Home and Back to the Stage

Fans of legendary British R&B group Loose Ends are celebrating after lead singer and songwriter Jane Eugene was released from ICE custody and has returned home to Los Angeles.

The news was shared by fellow Loose Ends member Steve Nichol, who posted an enthusiastic update on Facebook:

“SHE IS OUT!!”

“Well!! Here’s some fantastic news!! My girl Jane Eugene has been released from ICE!! She’s now back home in LA and relaxing!!”

Jane also expressed her gratitude to the many supporters who stood by her throughout the ordeal.

“Thank you, thank you, thank you! To everyone that prayed for me, for everyone that donated to my GoFundMe, THANK YOU.”

She added that while she is grateful for the support that helped her keep her home, legal expenses remain ongoing and assistance is still needed as her immigration case continues.

A Long Legal Battle

Jane Eugene, the British-born lead vocalist of Loose Ends, was detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement after being stopped at the U.S.-Canada border. Authorities determined that she had overstayed a visa for many years, leading to her detention and an extended immigration case.

For more than a year, Eugene remained in immigration custody while her attorneys worked to prevent her deportation. Supporters launched a GoFundMe campaign to help cover legal costs and health-related expenses during her detention.

Her legal team reportedly argued that she qualified for relief under Section 245(i) of the Immigration and Nationality Act, which allows certain individuals to pursue permanent residency despite previous immigration violations.

A Pioneer of British R&B

Formed in London in 1980, Loose Ends made music history as the first Black British group to reach No. 1 on the U.S. Billboard R&B chart. The group’s sophisticated blend of soul, funk, jazz, and electronic production helped define the sound of 1980s R&B.

Their catalog includes beloved classics such as Hangin’ on a String (Contemplating), Slow Down, Watching You (Watching Me), Mr. Bachelor, and Stay a Little While Child.

Looking Ahead

Now free from detention, Jane Eugene is reportedly back home, recovering and preparing to return to what she loves most—performing for fans around the world as Loose Ends Featuring Jane Eugene.

The news has been met with relief and celebration throughout the R&B community, with fans expressing gratitude that the iconic singer can once again focus on her health, her music, and the legacy she has built over more than four decades in the industry.

For many longtime supporters, Jane Eugene’s release marks the beginning of a hopeful new chapter—and a welcome return for one of R&B’s most distinctive and influential voices.
