“Martin” Cast Reuniting For 30th Anniversary Special on BET+
Martin Lawrence and the cast of his 90s hit show Martin are set to have a reunion special on BET+.
Along with Martin, participants will include: Tisha Campbell, Tichina Arnold, and Carl Anthony Payne II.
The only missing piece would be Thomas Mikal Ford, who played Martin’s best friend Tommy in the series. Thomas died in 2016 at an Atlanta hospital from a ruptured abdominal aneurysm. He was 52-year old.
Tichina shared that the cast attended Thomas’ funeral.
“To be able to sit here 30 years later with this amazing cast that has had such an impact on pop culture is truly a blessing,” Lawrence said. “I am always humbled that the fans still want more of the show and its characters. I am looking forward to the reunion special.”
According to Deadline, the reunion special will be hosted by actor and comedian Affrion Crocket and taping will begin Feb. 20.
BET also announces that there will be “surprise guests” that will appear on the show. These guests could be other actors and musical artists who were featured on the show or the many characters Martin played. It would be nice to see Sheneneh Jenkins 30 years later.
The special will include interviews with the cast, original directors, musical performances, and behind-the-scenes commentary on the importance and impact of the show.
“Martin is one of the most beloved sitcoms in our community, both because it is hugely entertaining and because it played a pivotal role in changing the narrative of Black voices in entertainment and in culture through the portrayal of young, ambitious Black leads and healthy Black relationships,” said Scott Mills, CEO of BET. “Decades later, that representation is still just as important, which is why we’re so excited to honor a series that put Black culture front and center on our platform that embraces Black culture every day.”
Martin reunion special will air later on this year. No definite date has been set yet. In the meantime, catch all five seasons of Martin on BET+.
